About this blog

title pageJulia Reaves grew up in Anniston, Alabama, in the 1920’s.  When she graduated from high school in 1932 she went off to college with the idea of becoming a Baptist missionary.

At Howard College she met Fay Askew, a ministerial student who had the same aspirations.  They married and prepared for their vocation by attending the Southern Baptist Seminary in New Orleans, Louisiana.  In 1940 they there assigned to Argentina where they served as missionaries for 16 years.

After she left home Julia wrote faithfully to her parents once a week.  Not all letters were kept, but enough  were to create a wonderful narrative, mostly in her own words, of a very idealistic girl and woman who lived to follow her dream.

The letters were compiled and edited by Martha A Baskin
